St Luke resumes last Sunday’s theme of building up treasure in heaven rather than on earth.  “Where your treasure is there will your heart be also!”  For the Christian this means living by faith and in hope rather than relying on earthly security.  The Lord also develops the theme of the uncertainty of life and the need to be ready at any moment for God to call us to account.  He tells the parable of a master who has gone on a journey and servants playing up while he is away.  Employees who take risks may get the sack.  When it comes to our eternal salvation we cannot afford to risk being caught out by a spot check!
