Liturgy of the Word for Children

The purpose of the liturgy for children is to present the Gospel in a way that they can understand.  This may be by using a simplified version, using songs or craft activities.  The ministry is primarily aimed at children aged 4 to 8 years who have yet to take First Holy Communion but all children who attend will be welcome.

Children under 4 may attend the liturgy with a parent providing this does not prove too disruptive for the other children and it does not result in overcrowding.

A typical session will begin when Father calls the children up to the altar for their own Liturgy of the Word and they will then go to the St Dominic’s Room.

The session will normally start with the sign of the cross.
Then the theme for the day will be introduced.

Next the gospel acclamation is usually sung followed by the reading of the Gospel.  This is usually followed by some discussion with the children.

Then a craft activity to compliment the Gospel they have heard will be undertaken with a piece of collective work being presented at the offertory.
